Grey Friars Tower and War Memorial, Richmond Friary Gardens
The Franciscan friary was founded in 1258; the original church was made of timber but was later rebuilt in stone. Grey Friars Tower, which is largely all that remains of the church above ground, was built in the 15th century and shows the influence and wealth of the friars at that time. The tower is a Grade I listed building (List Entry Number: 1212029 LinkExternal link Historic England) whilst the friary site is designated as a scheduled monument (List Entry 1020405 LinkExternal link Historic England).

The war memorial was erected in front of the tower in 1921 (see NZ1701 : Richmond War Memorial, Friary Gardens for information); it is Grade II-listed.
