SP1604 : Height on the Pillar

taken 4 years ago, near to Hatherop, Gloucestershire, England

Height on the Pillar
Height on the Pillar
Country estates quite often had a taste for making their mark on the landscape. The Hatherop estate evidently had a liking for stone pillars with a ball on top, and they can be seen at a number of gateways and road junctions in the vicinity.
This one has 400.866 FEET carved into a stone at the base. The map marks a spot height of 122 just here, which is an exact metric conversion.
