Greenmount Tower
The buildings known as Tower Farm were originally used as dwellings and stables for Tottington Mill Printworks; carthorses were kept here to transport goods from the mill. The castellated tower and walls were built by Joshua Knowles in 1840 (SD7813 : JK 1840) allegedly to disprove local rumours that he was in financial difficulties. The tower originally held water in case of fire at the farm. It was modelled on the design of the gatehouse tower at the 14th century Nuttall Hall Farm where he had been apprenticed to the Grant Brothers of Ramsbottom. The property has been converted into apartments known as Tower Court.
