With their distinctive orange and black livery, Pennine's main service ran between Skipton and Lancaster, operated jointly with Ribble Motor Services until deregulation in October 1986. The service was then split, with Pennine maintaining the service between Ingleton and Skipton. Other local services, including the one to Malham, seen in this picture, were also operated. Having survived deregulation, unlike many other smaller operators, the firm finally ceased trading in 2014.

The firm generally purchased buses new, with few second hand purchases, although the bus on the Malham service is one of these. It is a Leyland Royal Tiger, with Leyland bodywork, new in 1952 to Ribble Motor Services. On the left is HWU816J, a Leyland Leopard with Willowbrook bodywork, which had joined the fleet just a couple of weeks earlier.
