NT9616 : Bridleway above Linhope

taken 6 years ago, near to Linhope, Northumberland, England

Bridleway above Linhope
Bridleway above Linhope
The track by the wood is heading for Linhope Spout; just beyond the central gully is a turning where bridleway 224 002 veers left over moorland on the north side of Ritto Hill. In doing so it passes through a scheduled monument, "an unenclosed hut circle settlement, an irregular aggregate field system and a cairnfield of later prehistoric date, four settlements and an enclosure of late prehistoric/Romano-British date" LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . The central gully is probably the track way which "enters the complex at the south east corner, varies between 5m and 9m wide and is a maximum of 1.8m deep".
