Central Church
Central Church
Originally May Street Presbyterian church it carries a plaque for the Rev Henry Cooke J3473 : The Memorial Church.

According to Protestant Revival LinkExternal link the old church closed in January 2019 "Once the clerical domain of that great Presbyterian figure, Rev Henry Cooke, who led the purging of Arians and Arminians [sic] from his denomination, May Street has long been reduced to a husk of a church ... Central Belfast, a church under the auspices of Carnmoney Presbyterian Church, will take over the running of the church."

According to the Belfast Telegraph LinkExternal link the "May Street congregation will be formally amalgamated with Fisherwick Church on the Malone Road."

Charlie Brett described it as “a really handsome Palladian example of the Presbyterian taste for the solidly classical. . . the memorial doorway to Dr Cooke, for whom the church was built is uncommonly good of its period, was designed in 1872 by John Boyd”. Another source describes it thus “A fine classical church of red brick with stucco dressings” but puts the doorway at 1870.
