Gregory Chapel
Gregory Chapel
I haven't found any clues on other websites to the origins of this name, but the name is an old one. It is possible (this is purely speculation) that this high point on the boundary between Cumbria (formerly Westmorland) and Yorkshire was used as a 'preaching cross' associated with Pope Gregory whose missionaries evangelised England in the 7th century.
