NY9143 : Hill road on line of smelt mill flue - 2

taken 5 years ago, near to Rookhope, County Durham, England

Hill road on line of smelt mill flue - 2
Hill road on line of smelt mill flue - 2
The line of the flue rises from the site of the Lintzgarth Smelt Mill in Rook Hope and its straight line can still be followed to the terminal chimney of which just the base remains. Here the flue has been levelled presumably to create a hill road to access the now disused quarry or mine at Hawk Hill. Now it can also aid access for grouse shooters - there's a grouse butt in view.
