Hexham Bridge, east side
Hexham Bridge, east side
This is the downstream side of the road bridge over the Tyne. The river is prone to flash floods (as hinted at by the depth marker in the foreground) that had swept away several previous bridges, but Robert Mylne's 1793 stone bridge just above the present weir has survived to date (the weir itself was previously further downstream). The fish pass in the foreground was installed in 2015 NY9464 : Salmon leap. The bridge is grade II* listed (list entry 1042629) and a scheduled monument.
