Rocksavage Power Station
Rocksavage Power Station
This is an 800 MW gas fired power station. It uses combined cycle gas turbine technology. There are a pair of Alstom 260 MW GT26A gas turbines exhausting through a heat recovery steam generator and then up the two grey stacks. One HRSG boiler is seen at the base of the left stack. The steam powers an ABB 280 MW steam turbine. This is condensing with the cooling water being cooled in a bank of fan assisted cooling towers that are seen in front of most of the power station. The overall efficiency is a very creditable 58%. 300 MW of the output powers the INEOS chemical works adjoining it with the balance going to the grid. The power station was opened by HM The Queen in 1998 and cost £375 million.
