Wick: the Wick Ferry
The ferryman assists an elderly gentleman onto the boat for the short crossing of the Stour to Christchurch Harbour, the landing stage visible in the background.
It is marked on the map as a summer service and I was a little surprised that iT was running, although it was a super sunny Saturday at the back end of half term, and certainly it doesn't run all the time in the winter.
It doesn't run to a timetable; at the other side I was the only prospective passenger and I asked him if he was crossing fairly soon. He replied, "Yes - as soon as you're ready to go," whereupon I hopped aboard and off we went.
