SD3037 : Emergency Services Time-line poles
taken 8 years ago, near to North Shore, Blackpool, England
The monument designed by Matt Titherington and honouring the emergency services was unveiled at Gynn Square in June 2013. It is a tribute to three police officers who died in 1983.
Angela Bradley, 24, Gordon Connolly, 23, and Colin Morrison, 38, all died in the Irish Sea when trying to save a holiday maker who got into trouble after attempting to rescue his dog. The officers were swept away when they were overcome by crashing waves. Conditions were so bad that it took over 3 hours for a lifeboat to arrive from Fleetwood.
Volunteers raised £30,000 to fund the monument which stands proudly in the Jubilee Gardens at Gynn Square, near to where the tragedy happened. The four 6ft figurines each represent an emergency service.
The officers had been previously remembered by a plaque in the Jubilee Gardens SD3037 : Plaque on Jubilee Gardens Memorial.
