This tree is an exception: healthy old oaks abound on the course. New tree-planting is evident on the ground and on satellite photos.
On the railway embankment beyond it a London Midland service, going right to left on the busy line between Coventry and Birmingham, approaches Hampton in Arden. Below the train are the red roofs of farm outbuildings near Marsh Lane. The tall structures in the distance are not blocks of flats but plant at a big sand and gravel quarry southwest of Meriden. They straddle the 23 easting gridline between SP2281 and SP2381. A quarry face can be seen on the right above the oak.
