Nextbike is a German company which runs a cycle hire stations in and around Glasgow city centre. There were originally 400 bikes for rent from 31 hire stations, a list of which can be found below. The popular scheme reached 20,000 hires within nine weeks of launching in June 2014.
Each bike carries the city's People Make Glasgow brand and is protected by a robust chain lock with a four digit code, a saddle with a theft protection device and GPS fitted to assist in locating any stolen bikes.
Glasgow Bike Station, a charity advocating mental and physical health through cycling as a means of transport, has the contract to carry out all bike maintenance.

Nextbike operates 15,000 bikes in 80 cities across 10 countries, including Nuremberg, Warsaw, Leipzig, Dubai and Christchurch.

In addition to the above permanent stations, there were 6 temporary bike hire stations in use during the 2014 Commonwealth Games. These were made permanent in 2015 and are located at;

"People Make Glasgow" is the city's latest promotion campaign. In the days and weeks leading up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the campaign slogan has been popping up at various prominent locations in and around the city centre.
