At this point, the A339 runs to the south of Greenham Common. Until the building of the Airbase on Greenham Common, the A339 was routed through Stroud Green, and cut straight across the common, rejoining the current route at Head's Hill.
The A339

The A339 runs for almost 35 miles between Newbury in Berkshire and Alton in Hampshire. Along the way, it forms the eastern and northern parts of the Basingstoke Ring Road.
