Clipsham Yew Avenue :: SK9816

Unique Yew Tree Avenue of around 150 clipped Yew trees, estimated to be over 200 years old, that formed part of the carriage drive to Clipsham Hall. The trees are clipped into a variety of shapes and symbols including AA for Amos Alexander, the first estate Head Forester who began clipping the Yews in 1870 and FC for Frank Cornell who began restoration of the avenue in 1955. The avenue is owned by Sir David Davenport-Handley and maintained by The Forestry Commission LinkExternal link
