NS4074 : Path beside Dumbarton Rock

taken 9 years ago, near to Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland

Path beside Dumbarton Rock
Path beside Dumbarton Rock
The path is cramped, with the cliffs that form the north-eastern side of Dumbarton Rock on the left, and the wall of Dumbarton FC's football ground on the right (NS4074 : Dumbarton FC and Dumbarton Rock; the actual name of the stadium varies, depending on the current sponsors).

The path opens out again further ahead, but alongside this narrower part of it are some boundary markers: NS3974 : Dumbarton Rock: War Department boundary stone no. 4 / NS4074 : Dumbarton Rock: War Department boundary stone no. 5 / NS4074 : Dumbarton Rock: War Department boundary stone no. 6.

The patch-forming species beside the path included NS4074 : Alexanders, which, on this occasion, was galled by a rust fungus: NS4074 : Rust fungus galls on Alexanders.
Dumbarton Rock and Castle

The Rock is a volcanic plug, and it has a long history as a fortified site. For further information, see the Geograph article "Dumbarton Rock and Castle": Link
