Flounders Folly the steep rack - Lower Dinchope, Shropshire
On the right of this photo is the top end of what our late mother, other Coles family members and others knew as the steep rack, the direct route to the Folly aka (also known as) the Monument starting from the lane to the south-east of Moorwood and running south-east straight up Callow Hill, where the contour lines tell their own story, to the tower looking out over this part of Shropshire. In years gone by it was a favourite venue for family parties, birthday parties or an objective for its own sake. There are a number of reasons current as to why the tower was built, but the reason seems to have passed away with the decease of Benjamin Flounders who had the tower built in 1838 it has been suggested to mark his 70th birthday. Time taken 10.40 am BST (British Summer Time).
