ST7067 : Village lock-up

taken 10 years ago, near to Kelston, Bath And North East Somerset, England

Village lock-up
Village lock-up
Kelston, in common with many other places, maintained a small cell for those who had become excessive, be it through drink or such. These village lock-ups were often cramped, unheated and featured cells without windows - lending them the alternative term of 'blindhouse'. This small iron grille is all that the miscreant would have for light and ventilation until the local authorities unlocked the door. See ST7067 : Kelston lock-up for the wider view.
