SK6174 : Woodland ride, Clumber Park
taken 9 years ago, near to Carburton, Nottinghamshire, England
Clumber Park was once the country estate of the Dukes of Newcastle. The mansion was demolished in 1938, but the chapel, pleasure ground, serpentine lake and walled kitchen garden have all been preserved.
The park was left to the people of Worksop by the Duke of Newcastle and acquired by the National Trust in 1946. It is used by walkers and has several miles of paths and cycle tracks surrounding the lake.
National Route 6 of the National Cycle Network passes through Watford, Luton, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Market Harborough, Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, Worksop, Sheffield, Manchester, Blackburn, Preston, Lancaster, Kendal and Windermere, and will connect London and Threlkeld (nr. Keswick) in Cumbria when complete.
