Inside a new beach hut
All the new concrete beach huts at Meadfoot Beach have been fitted with a cupboard and worktop, as well as light and power sockets. Electricity is paid for by a pre-paid card. The flooring and moveable items in this view are the property of the beach hut's tenant.
Meadfoot Beach huts
The promenade above Meadfoot Beach has long been home to a row of beach huts. The huts were owned by Torbay Council, and rented out on long or short lets. In 2013, Torbay Council announced plans to remove the old wooden huts and replace them with a two-tier row of 133 concrete huts with glass windows and wooden shutters. Lighting and power sockets were also to be installed. A winter storm in 2013, which damaged the promenade and the cliff behind the site delayed the work for a year, but in early 2015, the new huts were finally completed.
