The navigation buoys and light floats are moved as and when the sandbanks and mudbanks shift. However, the system has failed here, as this is taken from the barge Sobriety, stranded on a sandbank on a falling tide despite passing the nearby buoy 23 on the correct side. We waited two hours for the tide to turn.
