Late-lying snow patches, Braeriach
The corrie in the background is Garbh Coire Mor ('big rough corrie'), the site of the most persistent snow in the British Isles, which has been observed as melting entirely only in either the summer or autumn of the years 1933, 1959, 1996, 2003 and 2006.
The prevalence of westerly storms last winter, combined with a cold and snowy spring and a cool early summer, has led to more snow surviving into summer in the Scottish mountains in 2015 than has been typical in the last two or three decades.
