Looking down the Swannington Incline
The Leicester and Swannington Railway (L&S) was one of England's first railways, being opened on 17 July 1832 to bring coal from collieries in west Leicestershire to Leicester. The preceding sentence is courtesy of Ashley Dace.

The incline was operated by a very early horizontal single cylinder winding engine built in 1833 by the Horsley Iron works.
