Gayles Quarry
Long time disused. Not sure what was quarried here. I guess building stone.
Update 5/5/23:
Stainton Quarry Ltd has proposed to reopen the Gayles Quarry to extract 225,000 tonnes of block sandstone over 15 years. The proposal has raised concerns among community leaders over potential traffic congestion and damage to a listed bridge along the proposed transport route. While the council’s highways officers have deemed the proposal acceptable in principle, National Highways has stated that heavily loaded lorries cannot use the A66 until a major upgrade is completed. The firm has revised its transport route, which still raises concerns among community leaders, and is considering the cost of installing an alternative bridge. The proposal’s approval remains uncertain.
