War Memorial and Remembrance Garden, Stratford-Upon-Avon
The Stratford-Upon-Avon War Memorial is in the form of an octagonal Latin cross with plaques on each face of the pedestal.

Now sited in the Garden of Remembrance in Old Town, the War Memorial was originally unveiled at the top of Bridge Street in 1922. At some point in the inter-war years, traffic increased on Bridge Street and it is thought that a truck crashed in to the memorial, which prompted it to be moved to the Bancroft Gardens next to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Finally, after the Second World War a Garden of Remembrance was opened in 1954 where the War Memorial is located to today.

This memorial commemorates the residents of Stratford-Upon-Avon who were killed or missing in World War I. (The names of those killed in World War II are listed on a separate memorial wall nearby.)

The inscription reads:

IN/ GRATEFUL MEMORY
OF THE MEN OF
STRATFORD
UPON
AVON
WHO LAID DOWN
THEIR LIVES
IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 1919
