Charnwood Forest Railway

The Charnwood Forest Railway was opened in 1883 to carry coal but was not successful and went into receivership in 1885. Despite the best efforts of the receiver, it didn't exit receivership until 1909 and, except for a brief period during the Second World War, was never busy. Passenger services were added in 1907 but ended in 1931 and the line closed completely in 1963.
