D3937 is a member of a class of nearly 1,000 350 horsepower diesel electric shunters built for BR (British Railways) between 1952 and 1962. This class was the standard BR general-purpose diesel shunter.
The unnamed locomotive was withdrawn from service in 1989. After purchase by the Dean Forest Railway in 1999, the Gladys nameplate was added.
