The first Wigan Grammar School was endowed in 1597. This building, on Parsons Walk was the fourth school, opened in 1937 (

Archive Link ) Wigan Grammar School). After the grammar school closed in 1972, it became Mesnes High School until 1989, and then the Mesnes Building of Wigan College. It was designated a Grade II listed building in 1997 (
Link British Listed Buildings).
Since 2003, it has been known as the Thomas Linacre Centre and is an out-patient department for the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust (
