SX8671 : Almost gone

taken 50 years ago, near to Newton Abbot, Devon, England

Almost gone
Almost gone
Newton Abbot cooling tower disappearing below the rooftops. The rest of the power station was demolished shortly afterwards. The site is now occupied by the Templers Road housing estate.
The power station was commissioned in 1924 and decommissioned in 1974. The event took place at about 7.30 one Sunday morning in 1975 (to the best of my recollection). Most of the town turned out to watch. The photograph was taken from Osborne Park. If anyone reading this can narrow down the date of the event please contact me.
