TL2236 : Stotfold Mill
taken 12 years ago, near to Stotfold, Central Bedfordshire, England
The phoenix mill (although officially Randall's mill after the owner). Why? Because in 1992 an arson attack gutted the place. Thankfully the grade II listed machinery survived the fire and still grinds today as over the years the mill has been rebuilt. Inside are two Derbyshire grits along with two of the new Holland millstone type. Power is provided via a wide overshot wheel.
Upstairs an array of machinery (sifters and crushers) are in working order.
The mill complex compromised of a steam powered roller mill (private house) with leaning chimney. The chimney was built by patients of the nearby mental hospital. Of course the mill itself along with a cart shed and mill house.
The site is open often and well worth a look.
