SU7505 : Emsworth: The Fishermans Stairs

taken 12 years ago, near to Hermitage, West Sussex, England

Emsworth: The Fishermans Stairs
Emsworth: The Fishermans Stairs
These stairs lead down to the foreshore from the road called The Fishermans, which is off King Street. Old large scale Ordnance Survey maps show that until quite recently the area between King Street and the foreshore here was very much a hive of industry. In the 19th century timber yards, shipbuilding yards, saw mills, flour mills and a sacking factory are all present.
