Tumulus, Shipley Bottom
A Bronze Age tumulus (centre, middle distance) viewed from a byway running through Shipley Bottom.LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) This tumulus was excavated by A.D. Passmore who found a primary cremation in a cist below a cairn of stones, with the rim of an urn and conical shale object. The barrow mound is 1 metre high surrounded by a 3 metre wide quarry ditch from which material was obtained during construction of the monument.
This byway is closed to traffic (except for farm vehicles) during the winter months.
