The stone parapet is over the entrance to the tunnel SJ8990 : Tunnel Portal that carried the former railway line through Tiviot Dale under Wellington Road North to Travis Brow. The tunnel was damaged during the construction of the motorway alongside and the tracks were lifted in 1986. The tunnel has been mostly infilled. The wooden platform behind is an access space for workmen to the advertising hoarding at the side of Wellington Road North.
