TQ5946 : The Old Fire Station, Tonbridge - front view
Nostalgia! I went to the infant school (Bank Street Infants) right opposite this fire station. It occupied only part of the ground floor of a very large building, but at the age of five this didn't seem strange at all. I remember vividly our lessons being interupted by the sound of the fire siren, which was the only effective way of calling firemen in to the station (many homes had no telephones then). The infants merged with the Slade primary school just down the road while I was a primary school pupil, but I don't know what use the Bank Street building was put to.
Do we know what the old fire station is used for now?
