Scopwick Signal Box near Kirkby Green
The innards of a signal box. This is the inside of a building that contains manually operated signal levers for all the railway lines in its section. It also has manually operated levers for all the points (although I think they may be redundant in this box, the points having been lifted) and the hand operated mechanism for opening the crossing gates. The gates are soon to be replaced by automatic barriers and the signal box will be closed. Some signal boxes have become listed buildings and remain in situ. Some have been rescued and rebuilt on preserved lines and some have been converted for living accommodation.
