TR0165 : The end of the Harty Ferry road, Isle of Sheppey

The end of the Harty Ferry road, Isle of Sheppey
This corner of Sheppey - Harty - has a pretty remote feel, being a good few miles by road from the bridge which links the island to the Kent mainland. Once upon a time it had a more direct link to the mainland, as the Harty ferry worked across the Swale from here to a point west of Oare Creek (at about TR 013 647), north of Faversham.

The vessel used seems to have been an oyster smack ( likely enough in this part of Kent ), and operated up until the outbreak of World War II.
