View eastward, towards Montrose and Aberdeen; ex-North British Edinburgh - Dundee - Aberdeen main line. The early main-line Diesels gave plenty of trouble: here Birmingham/Sulzer 1,1160 hp Type 2s Nos. D5313 and D5300 coupled on an Aberdeen - Edinburgh express are having to be taken off because one is on fire! No. D5300 survived until 1985 and is preserved at Barrow Hill Roundhouse, Staveley.
