The first match on the new 3G pitch at Netherdale, Galashiels
A full size 3G pitch and a smaller 3G training pitch has been installed at the Gala Fairydean FC ground at Netherdale, Galashiels. The all-weather surface pitch, a first for the Scottish Borders, is FIFA 2-star rated and IRB-22 compliant for football and rugby matches. The £950,000 facility was to be officially opened during November 2011 but bad weather delayed the sand and rubber infill to the synthetic grass and this ceremony will now take place at a later date. The project was jointly funded by Scottish Borders Council (£500,000), Cashback for Communities through sportscotland (£350,000) and the R.S. Hayward Trust (£100,000). The first game on the new pitch was an East of Scotland League, King Cup first round match between Gala Fairydean and Preston Athletic on 28th January 2012 with the home team winning 3-1. This was taken during the first half with the Preston Athletic players in red and the home players in black.
