SU2408 : Woodland path, Bolderwood
taken 13 years ago, 4 km WSW of Newtown, Hampshire, England
Woodland path, Bolderwood
The path at this point passes areas of bracken.
Bracken is perhaps the best-known of the British ferns. It spreads as much by its rhizomes as its spores, especially on open heathland.
Bracken is our most familiar fer and is widespread with the reproductive spores appearing in late summer. The perennial is refused by sheep and rabbits and resistant to fire and it often invades heath, moors and woodland.
