Aimes Green is the meeting point of many ancient drove roads which connected Waltham Abbey with Harlow and Epping as well as other local hamlets.

The woodland on the left of the picture contains the route of the Epping Forest Green Lane which runs through Galleyhill Wood towards Galleyhill Green.
Galleyhill Green

Galleyhill Green is an Epping Forest Green Lane which leads to South to Aimes Green TL3902 : Epping Forest, Aimes Green, north to Nazeing and east to Epping Long Green TL4204 : Southern end of Epping Long Green. In the past this would have been grazing land for drovers to use as they took their livestock between Waltham Abbey, Harlow, Latton Priory and the surrounding villages.

Epping Forest

Epping Forest (formerly known as Waltham Forest) is an ancient woodland north-east of London. As a former royal forest dating from the 12th century, it is managed by the City of London Corporation.

The forest is 2,476 hectares in area, comprising woodland, grassland and open heath, forming a 19km long green corridor.
