The Blackstaff River, Belfast

A short urban river, fed by the Woodlands River, rising near the Bog Meadows, flowing into the Lagan upstream of here J3473 : The Albert Bridge, Belfast.
Much of its course is parallel to the M1 motorway (where it flows along the eastern/south eastern side) before going underground a short distance before the Broadway roundabout. It continues, passing to the north of the railway, under Gt Victoria Street, the Dublin and Ormeau Roads and enters the Lagan near the site of the former Gasworks.
In 1881 it was described as "Time was when the Blackstaff ran through the suburbs little more polluted than a mountain burn. Now it has become the greatest eyesore in the town."
This description and the photographs submitted by me appear as a matter of record only. They should not be interpreted as expressing any environmental or other opinion about the river.
