SD9851 : Shunting oil tanks at Skipton

taken 37 years ago, near to Skipton, North Yorkshire, England

Shunting oil tanks at Skipton
Shunting oil tanks at Skipton
There used to be a siding just east of the station, roughly where Morrisons supermarket now is, used for oil deliveries. Here in 1988 is a rake of such tanks being shunted by the station pilot 08707. Note that platform 4 in the foreground was at that time out of use by passenger trains.

The semaphore signals in this photo are also seen in Neil Clifton's 1983 view SD9851 : Skipton station but were replaced, along with the signal box in the distance, in the 1990s electrification.
