SH5763 : Plas Eryr A grand old house within a memorable landscape; a splendidly evocative image. Family lore says Dr.JP Marren joined the British cause in WWl with Irish Volunteers believing contribution would earn a united, free,Ireland. Bitterly disappointed when Lloyd George reneged on the Home Rule for Ireland Bill, JPM disposed of his M.Cross. His wife, now also deceased, had formidable military experience in own right as a young Fenian citizen, smuggling armaments in her clothing to de Valera's unit at Bowlands Mill, Dublin - Easter 1916. A gun of' 'the times' & JPM's medal are said, lie buried amongst the once thought unfashionable household fitments & dispensary curios of this former stately doctor's mansion. The grounds are quieter & wilder now. Nature has taken back her real treasures.
