O1931 : Merrion gates, Dublin

taken 43 years ago, near to Merrion, Dublin, Ireland

Merrion gates, Dublin
Merrion gates, Dublin
Merrion station opened in 1834 and closed in 1934. It has a level crossing at the Dublin end. The photograph shows the old gates and a materials train during the re-construction and electrification of the line for the DART. The gates have gone replaced by automatic full barriers remotely monitored. The barriers and the adjacent traffic lights on the Dublin – Dun Laoghaire road are interlinked to prevent stationary traffic obstructing the crossing.
