A hint of interlocking spurs as the river's course steepens - it has a lot of descending to do in the next kilometre before turning south to Postbridge.

To the right of this wall, on Broad Down, is enclosed land and to the left lies open moor and the Merrivale Range.

This rocky outcrop has no official name. However, on the summit there is a memorial SX6280 : Samuel Tor to a little boy, Samuel Nigel George Ayers, calling this place Samuel Tor. It is a remote and peaceful spot.
