St. Mary's is a grade II*(star) listed building, medieval with later tower, burnt down 1914, rebuilt 1916, a doubtful contribution to the war effort. The obtrusive lych gate was not there in an 1875 photograph.

The River Thames at Wargrave
Looking east from the tow path at Lower Shiplake. The white building is Wargrave Hall, former home of MP Edward Goulding. Several cabinet meetings were held here during the First World War.
