Steam pumping engine, Llanover Colliery Pumping Station
Sorry remains of a 1914 Hathorn, Davey horizontal tandem differential non-rotative steam pump. Disused since 1932/3 when replaced by electric pumps. There had been another one but that had been completely scrapped.

Looking upstream to the camera position for SO1800 : Stream & track near Rank Sir Henry; the discoloured stream is flowing out of a culvert underneath the gate. Part of Hafodrisclawdd Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.

Pen-deri farm and the hamlet of Gwrhay taken from on the Sirhowy Valley Walk climbing up from Argoed. On the skyline, five miles to the south, can be seen Mynydd Machen which is also on the same long distance path.

Start of field footpath & two stiles
Path from road next to Twyn Simon Farm. The blue hose leads to a tap to fill a horse trough next to the near wooden stile. Houses in Argoed can just be discerned on the far side of the valley.

Access road to Ty'r Sais Farm
The farm buildings are about 200 metres ahead. The farm's Welsh name means Saxon's House or Englishman's House. Out of shot, a public footpath sign points along this road.

Disused quarry and fly-tipping area
The old quarry is quite beautiful as nature reclaims it, however not everyone appreciates its value and fly-tipping has occurred, seemingly over a long time. Quite a rare phenomenon in the South Wales Valleys.
