SO6518 : Track towards Mitcheldean from near Pingery Tump by Clint Mann Track towards Mitcheldean from near Pingery Tump
This track soon becomes a footpath across fields and descends to the playing fields in Mitcheldean. Nearby Pingery Tump (aka Pinary Tump) was once the site of a gallows; the last man to be hanged there was Eli Hatton, who had stolen a sheep.
SO6518 : Birch boughs bowing by Pauline E Birch boughs bowing
Opposite the Mitcheldean Water Treatment Works is this short row of birches - all standing tall and straight except for this one which looks as if it is dowsing. The map shows the area behind as forest - it appears to have been cleared and replanted.
SO6518 : Part of Mitcheldean Meend by Jonathan Billinger Part of Mitcheldean Meend
An area of forest recently felled, to the east of the Water Works.
SO6518 : Statutory Forest by Des Blenkinsopp Statutory Forest
Set in stone, and plastic, this all looks very officious, but I guess a Statutory Forest has to identify itself. Wouldn't want anyone mistaking it for one of those Casual Forests you see around the place.
