Geograph - photograph every grid square

Some very interesting machinery here, some of which I have used myself in the past and then watched them disappear as implements got bigger and more technical:
H4775 : Old farm implement, Glenhordial (3) I knew these as spring tine cultivators, but then in Ireland they could well have been known as grubbers. Mr Allen also mentions the Ford Ferguson tractor, these were built as a "Gentlemen's Agreement" between Harry Ferguson and Henry Ford and were produced in Detroit from 1939 until 1947. It used the engine from Ford Jeeps and Ferguson hydraulics, giving both power and efficiency.

H4775 : Old farm implement, Glenhordial (6) This is a reciprocating blade mower, with the cutter blade removed, it had triangular "teeth" that were sharpened on two sides and travelled back and forth through the tines on the cutter bar. The teeth could be sharpened with a file or changed for new ones when they got worn down.

H4775 : Old farm implement, Glenhordial (7) My favourite- the "Acrobat" rake. This was a tool of many purposes, the angle of the "wheels" made them rotate and by using them at different settings (each pair could be set at different angles) you could spread the grass after mowing, turn the hay and finally row it up ready for the baler!
